Please read all the info here. The Registration Form is at the bottom of this page.
Dear Bride and Groom:
Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding! We wish you every blessing and we hope your wedding day will be full of memories that you will treasure for the rest of your life.
Marriage for Christians is the same as for everyone else: two people so much in love that they want to spend the rest of their lives together and raise a family.
Documentation required by the Church
a) A recent copy of your Baptism Certificate. (Not the original – contact the parish you were baptized at and request a copy 6 months before your wedding)
b) A Confirmation Certificate
c) A Certificate of the Marriage Preparation Course
d) A Marriage License (this is only valid for 3 months – so, no rush. Please, be precise with the information you give them - spelling of names, etc.)
All the above documents must be presented at least three months before the wedding, so that the Prenuptial Enquiry (Form I) can be done on time, and any dispensations obtained from the Archdiocese of Toronto (i.e. if a Catholic is marrying a non-Catholic).
If previously married in the church, you need a “Marriage Annulment” from the Catholic
Marriage Tribunal plus the final Certificate of Divorce.
If previously married outside the norms of the Catholic Church, you need a final Certificate of Divorce, and the final Marriage Certificate must indicate the name and position of the officiating minister.
If you do not possess a certificate of Marriage, and if the Marriage was celebrated in Ontario, a certified copy of the civil marriage registration (Statement of Marriage, Long Form) may be obtained from:
The Register General’s Office - 189 Red River Road
P.O. Box 4600, Thunder Bay, Ontario P7B 6L38
Important: If previously married, no date can be set for a church wedding until approval has been granted by the Archdiocese of Toronto (Form III and Form VIII).
Marriage Preparation Course: Every couple is required to complete a Marriage Preparation Course and in some cases a Remarriage Preparation Course.
St. Agnes does not offer them but our pastor will recommend you suitable options at the interview.
Church Fee: St. Agnes is a 100+ years old church, built and kept by Irish, Italian and Portuguese immigrants. Its maintenance costs are high. Your donation, which will be discussed at the interview, will help the parish to continue its mission.
Music: Keep in mind that not all music is appropriate at church. You can arrange to bring your own musicians, or you can contact our church organist, whose contact will be shared with you.
The music fee is totally independent from the church donation and should be paid directly to the musician.
Flowers: Please, inform your florist to be prepared to remove the flowers right after your wedding so that the church can be ready for the next wedding or mass. Your florist should not use any scotch tape. No candles. Runners, confetti, rice, or anything that may dirty the floor of the church is not allowed (those traditions are not necessary or can be done elsewhere).
Pictures and Videos: The church is a sacred space (a place of worship, as others put it) and we ask that all photographers and videographers keep that in mind. It is not just a venue. A church wedding is not a photo shoot. There is no filming during the “consecration” or when the people are receiving communion.
Timing: The time of your service has been, or will be, designated just for you. Remember that there may be another wedding before or after yours. So, we ask everybody to be on time. If you arrive quite late for your wedding, parts of the service may be eliminated.
Wedding with Mass: Mass is only celebrated when both groom and bride are practicing Catholics.
