Senhor da Pedra 2025
Sobre a origem das festas nos Açores: “Não é fácil precisar” quando começou o culto e as festas, mas “há uma lenda” que refere que a imagem Senhor da Pedra apareceu na praia do Corpo Santo “dentro de uma caixa de madeira”, “em data desconhecida”.
As duas imagens – a primitiva e a atual – representam a imagem do “Ecce Homo”, o Cristo coroado de espinhos, sentado numa pedra.
On the origins of this feast in the Azores: “It’s not easy to pinpoint” when the worship and festivities began, but “there is a legend” that states that the Senhor da Pedra image appeared on the Corpo Santo beach “inside a wooden box”, “on an unknown date”.
The two images – the primitive and the current one – represent the image of “Ecce Homo”, the Christ crowned with thorns, sitting on a stone.
For over a century, Saint Agnes’ Parish has been more than a place of worship—it has been a pillar of joy and unity for people from all walks of life. We are proud of the many immigrants and hardworking people who continue to build our legacy in faith and community life. Since the 1970s, we have proudly hosted the Senhor Da Pedra Festival ("The Lord of the Rock"), an annual tradition that brings together our community in celebration, faith, and fellowship, because of Christ who gave his life for every human being.
This year, on the weekend of July 5-6, 2025, we invite you and your family to experience the magic of this time-honored festival. It’s an opportunity to come together, enjoy live music, captivating performances, delicious food—including our famous malasadas (Portuguese donuts)—and participate in the deeply cherished religious procession that defines the heart of our event.
